  Research interests: My research focuses on representation and reasoning problems in AI, especially in constraint programming and scheduling. What does that mean in practice? For example, we're trying to improve the algorithms used to schedule in Sydney's traffic lights, based on running the signals in any safe order, and perhaps taking in new sensor information like queue lengths from cameras. As another example, we're working on how you might roster staff in, say, a hospital. Research groups: I am program leader of the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning program at NICTA, Australia and professor at the School of CSE in UNSW. I am external professor at Uppsala University. I am a member of the COMIC multi-site research group which brings together members of the COconut and the miMIC groups.
